I have a great group of highly motivated, involved students. One of them said he had visited the RobinFrederick.com web site, read my article Notes On Songwriting, and found that using a "ghost song" as a pattern really worked for him. I've had several guestbook entries from people who say it has worked for them but this is the first time I've met someone face to face who has tried it. I was very pleased to hear that he'd had success with it and decided to take a class from me because of it. I spent last weekend in a home studio with singer/guitarist Laurie Forsey who was recording a vocal and rhythm guitars on my new country song, "Best Thing That's Happened To Me." He gave me four tracks each of vocal and guitar which I brought back to my studio on CD-ROM. I got about halfway done with the vocal comp last Monday, then needed to spend time preparing for my class and wasn't able to get back to it again until this weekend. I finished the vocal comp last night and it sounds really good. Laurie did a great job. He has a wonderful voice - lots of energy and emotion. The guitars turned out to be a breeze to comp - just a couple spots where they dragged just a little. I grabbed a few measures from earlier verses and popped them right in. I'm going to lay down some harmony vocals today then ask Grant Geissman to record a lead guitar solo. The mix is pretty much done. I should be able to start shopping the song by the end of the week. Yay!!!
