STRATEGY FOR THE DAY: give them some

A great workshop last Saturday at Pasadena City College. I never know what kind of people will turn up. Two weeks ago I had a couple hip-hop producers, this week I had folks who were into standards and musical theater. It never gets boring!

I am trying to put some time aside to work on new songs but it's difficult. Between working for TAXI, teaching, programming the inflight channel for Ted Airlines, it's been hard. I need to get it back on the front burner or I won't get to it. I give other people this advice all the time, and every time I do I'm reminded that I'm not following it myself.

It rained hard today as I was driving over Malibu Canyon. A little scary to be on the curving roads with any number of precarious boulders lurking above, just waiting to throw themselves down on unsuspecting cars. Gorgeous scenery though; everything looks so different and smells so good when it's wet.

Watched Masterpiece Theatre: The Lost Prince last night on PBS. The story of the third son of King George V, Prince John had epilepsy and a learning disability. We see the period of time just before and during WWI through his eyes - the extended royal family with its convoluted, dysfunctional relationships and the politics that overwhelmed so many. The music underscore is magnificent (along with the directing, writing and casting). Beautiful long, slow shots where the camera lingers and the music carries it all. Underscore was composed by Adrian Johnston and performed by session musicians for Orchestra Di Roma and Slovak Radio Symphony Orchestra. For more info, visit the Lost Prince website Well worth watching!
