STRATEGY FOR THE DAY: push this thing over

From the NEWS page on my website, here's the latest...

INDEPENDENT ARTIST AID - Tsunami Relief.

Robin's song "Water Falls Down" leads off a fund-raising compilation CD titled HOPE NEVER DIES. IndieNetTunes, host of the CD, describes the project as "a potpourri of recording artists who have come together via the internet to aid the Tsunami victims through music. Ranging from ambient to hard rock, the CD is filled with diverse tunes and some of the best indie talent on the globe." All profits from sale of HOPE NEVER DIES are donated to Mercy Corps where 91% of the money collected goes directly to help the victims. To hear lo-fi and hi-fi samples of all the tracks, buy the CD, and contribute $12.50 to Mercy Corps' tsunami relief fund, visit Independent Artist Aid/IndieNetunes. Contributing artists include: Robin Frederick, Laine, John Paul Sharp, Frankie Ho, Peter Kearns, Woodstock Taylor, Richard Kapp, Suedepudding, Steve Ison, Charas, Stoopid Genius, isenho, Backbone Shiver, Jose O'Cohen, The Box, Henry Correy & the Correydors, Elvis ate my Goat & Sachi.

I was approached about the project by the wonderfully talented Woodstock Taylor, whose quirky and delightful music I first heard at GarageBand.com. I was happy to contribute and proud of her for pulling this together so effectively and so quickly.

I spent an hour this morning listening to an online radio interview on Soundcheck from WNYC. The program was called "Spirits Of A Generation." First half was Patrick Humphries on Nick Drake - nothing new here but nicely done - the second half was an interview with John Edginton, creator of a new Syd Barrett documentary. I found the Syd Barrett portion particularly interesting as there was some information I hadn't heard before. Of course we all know the story of the "Shine On" session with Syd showing up and no one recognizing him but there were a number of poignant moments and revealing anecdotes. I got a kick out of the interviewer's comparisons with the "Spinal Tap" film. Well, where did you think the ideas for "Spinal Tap" came from? Hello? Here's the link. Don't know how long it will be available online: Nick Drake / Syd Barrett on WNYC.
