Derrick Leigh just sent a link and a quote from a very interesting interview by Pamela Murray Winters with singer-songwriter Stephen Fearing. The section titled "Writing Tips from Stephen Fearing" is wonderful info for songwriters, useful reminders of what works and what doesn't. The last paragraph is a great example of the primary exercise I urge all songwriters to try: Take a hit song and write a new lyric to the melody, then drop out the melody and write a new one of your own. You may end up with a strong original song. (Don't worry about using the chords because chord progressions cannot be copyrighted.) Or you may end up with a plenty of inspiration, a good idea of what a hit song feels like, and a valuable practice session. Here's the link: http://pamelamurraywinters.blogspot.com/. The relevant paragraphs are a ways down the page. Try choosing "Find" in your menu and type in "writing tips". That should take you right to it. I'm working on remixes and recording demos with a few clients. Couple of interesting things in the works besides. More later. * - * - * - * - * - * - * - * - *
