STRATEGY FOR THE DAY: Rewind.

I just spent a very pleasurable afternoon recording flamenco guitarist Frank Giordano. Frank plays with a passionate, powerful style that was just what I was looking for when I decided to record a world-beat version of my song "Ship Of Passage."

I began searching for the right musician last June, going online to research flamenco guitarists. I listened to audio samples posted on web sites, iTunes excerpts, whatever I could find. I was thrilled when I found a three-piece flamenco/jazz group called Cerro Negro based in San Diego that had a great edgy feel and plenty of flamenco fire. Frank plays rhythm guitar in the group. I contacted him, sent him a rough track, he recorded some ideas and sent them back via mp3. He understood just what I wanted. He arranged to make the two-hour drive to L.A. to record at my place on a Sunday so the traffic wouldn't be too horrific. We had a terrific time playing, recording, swapping horror stories about computer music software. He's a gem.

You can hear Frank and Cerro Negro on the music page at the Cerro Negro website.
