STRATEGY FOR THE DAY: Take shallow breaths.

Just want to let everyone know I'm fine. The fires seemed to be all around but my little pocket of L.A was untouched. Even the smoke isn't too bad here. Malibu Canyon Road was finally opened up today and I drove over it on my way home. Long stretches of blackened, twisted shrubs, whole sides of the canyon are burned out. The 'Malibu castle' is gone. It wasn't a particularly attractive castle and it wasn't old - built in 1970 and it was ugly then - but it sounds like there were some wonderful treasures inside. That's one of the things people don't think about right away when there's been a fire; it's not just the homes that are lost but the works of art, the recordings, photos, and handcrafts that people have collected, especially in a place like Malibu. There was a chandelier in the castle that was said to have been worth a million dollars. I would like to have that shining in the night just once. But now it's gone. Oh, well.
