Here's another scam email that's a bit different from earlier ones. (Read the Royal Scam for more email cons of this sort.) I'm glad to see that worrying about conning the pants off people hasn't cramped their creativity. This one involves a dead Japanese businessman (with a conveniently also-dead family) and a paltry $40 million, of which you (the scammee) will only receive 25%. Gee, these people are expecting a lot for a measly $10 million! At least this time they are being right out front about "incidental expenses." Payoffs to corrupt but helpful public officials will no doubt require a bit of up-front cash from you... oh, say, a mere $5,000 or so which you'll never see again. (Phone numbers and email addresses have been deleted to protect the stupid.)

I wish to make an urgent and important business proposal to you, which is based on trust and confidentiality.

I am a Forty (40) year old Lawyer practising in Nigeria. One of my clients was late MR. NOMOTO IKOH, a Japanese National (Now deceased). Three years ago, MR. IKOH successfully executed a contract for Federal Government of Nigeria worth US$40 million. A part payment of US$15 million was paid to MR. Simply, I intend to channel this money to the account of a clever but reliable person who upon successful payment of the money, will earn 25% thereof, 70% will be for me and the officials that will approve the payment, while 5% is set outside to cover incidental expenses along the line. Your nationality does not matter as all modalities have been set to pay whomever I present as the next of kin. To create a perfect semblance of genuineness however, the next of kin must be a Foreigner. This transaction will take about 14 working days to conclude as soon as you indicate your interest. For prompt action, contact me urgently through email or fax. Please, do accord this transaction the confidentiality it deserves.

And why is it ALWAYS Nigeria??? Is that the only corrupt government in Africa? I'm sure if somebody looked hard enough, they could find another one. Oh, and I LOVE the 40 in parenthesis to make it sound all legal-ish. It's his AGE!!!
